Analyze Learners

: This lesson is designed for 4th and 5th grade elementary students in a resource classroom. This lesson is to be used as a supplement to better explain math comparison and comparison symbols. The resource class is comprised of 5 males and 3 females whose ages range from 9-10 years old. 7 of the students have learning disabilities and the 8th is a student with autism who has sufficient verbal communication skills. All students function below their intended grade level in math.

 

            Students will work in pairs and small groups for this activity. The time frame of the activity may vary and may need to be completed over a span of 2 days because the students become easily distracted and have difficulty staying focused.

Student Learners

Current Knowledge

Students are able to read and explain bar graphs. Students have been introduced to Microsoft Excel and have previously made bar graphs with step-by-step instructions from the teacher. The students have also been working on math comparisons and comparison symbol lessons and worksheets for 60 minutes a day for 2 school days.
